Femap references
Leading companies use Femap to analyze complex engineering problems and accelerate design. Other simulation tools either don’t offer enough capabilities to simulate real-life engineering problems, or haven’t kept up with the latest technology.
Allseas Group
The Allseas Group is one of the major offshore pipe-laying and subsea construction companies in the world. Working with specialized vessels that are designed in-house, Allseas lays pipe in every sea and at every depth.
Finite element analysis (FEA) helps Allseas get these changes made as quickly as possible, with the assurance that they will meet the insurer’s regulations. The company’s main FEA solution is the Femap® pre and postprocessor and the NX® Nastran solver, both from Siemens PLM Software.
GustoMSC
GustoMSC, part of the SBM Offshore N.V. group of companies, specializes in vessels used to locate and drill for offshore oil and gas.
The software is used across the product line for the design of the vessels themselves as well as for on-board equipment such as heavy-duty cranes. An easy-to-use program with extensive functionality, Femap is a good fit at GustoMSC.
IV-Nevesbu
Nevesbu, is a naval Architecture and Marine engineering company involved in the design of ships and structures and installations for offshore, naval and specialist vessels.
Making analyses is for many design companies an emerging business. If not for the maritime engineering company Iv-Nevesbu, which has a rich history in this area. For years Femap is used as a pre- and postprocessor for nearly all analyses carried out.
Korndörffer Contracting International
Korndörffer Contracting International (KCI) delivers complete engineering, design and consulting services for on- and offshore oil and gas extraction. The company specializes in total field development.
An interesting and slightly different example of how KCI used Femap and NX Nastran is the company’s work on the Great Dubai Wheel. This is the largest observation wheel in the world. “It’s comparable to the London Eye, except bigger; its diameter is about 575 feet,” Korndörffer recounts.
Machinefabriek EMCE
Based in Voorhout, the Netherlands, Machinefabriek EMCÉ specializes in providing winches and capstans to a worldwide customer base. When constructions strongly deviate from the standard because of special specifications, EMCÉ becomes especially aware of the legal requirements imposed on lifting and hoisting devices.
Femap is mainly used to dimension the construction before its application to the calculations that will be documented.
SMIT Engineering
SMIT Internationale N.V. is a Dutch company with 165 years experience in the maritime industry and 30 offices around the world. SMIT Engineering is a shared resources division, providing assistance to all divisions within the company.
SMIT Engineering’s work includes design and engineering calculations for recovery and towing operations, such as the recovery of the Tricolor, a ship that was lying in the English Channel along a prominent shipping route, and the Kursk, the Russian nuclear cruise missile submarine that was lost with its entire crew when it sank in the Barents Sea in 2000. The FEA software from Siemens PLM Software play a critical role in these efforts.
